Breakfast in Okinawa

Hmm, I seem to have started a post and then forgotten all about it! Here are some shots I took at breakfast in our Hotel (Delfino) in Nago city. The breakfast is absolutely amazing! Here you can see one side of the buffet (called Baikingu in Japan (Viking) just like we call it smorgasbord - everyone associates this with the Scandanavians).

The eggy dish third from the left bottom is a specialty peculiar to Okinawa - eggs with bitter melon. It's pretty good!

Above is a marvelous version of French toast (right front) and on the left is what they call caramel rolls - a bread with a honey butter baked inside.

This top shelf is western-style breakfast - bacon scrambled eggs and vienna sausage. (no Spam - but you can get it in the markets.) Western breakfast always comes with a salad which is on the shelf below here.

This (above) is a Japanese-style rice pancake - it is mooshy and served with oyster sauce mixed with catsup. I'm starting to like it.

Outside our facility I saw this belamcanda - Blackberry lily. Below you can see the building.

This is a shot I took from my hotel window.

These figures are called Shisas and they are peculiar to Okinawa. The protect the residents from bad spirits and almost every residence has a set of one kind or another.

Great Shisa Link here

The tropical flowers blossom in abundance. There are often orchids growing from the bark of trees.

Here is a Shisa with some flowers! How much more Okinawan can you get?

Finally a quick shot of the grocery store.
