Art Car parade

Yesterday was the 13th Annual Car Soup Art Car Parade and it was tons of fun! We had a wonderful day all the way around. First there was the parade, then we went for barbecue. After that it was off to the Guthrie Theater to see Noel Coward's "Private Lives", topped off by fireworks over the river!! Who could ask for anything more!

What follows are images from the parade in no particular order or size. (Remember to click on images for better detail (which one really needs to see for most of these cars!) I took so many pictures that there will be a couple of days worth of blogs by the time I get all the images edited and downloaded.

To whet your apetite, I'll first show you some of the star attractions. This is the Mercedes Bonz which is actually an audi.

Jan Elftmann is the initiator of the parade and this is her famous Cork Truck.

When the art car artists arrrive in their cars, the line up in three lines on a side street. This gave us a chance to look at the cars, before they got moving!

I knew Mindy would have loved this one because it has a row of pigs near the windshield.

This is Rex Rosenberg's Chewbaru from Kansas - those are dental molds on the back (and front) of the car! And I thought my car was creepy!

This car is an art art car!

For some reason I am having problems with photos covering each other in this part of the blog. I thought I'd throw a little more text in here and see if it helps. If not I'll reload photos later tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The Lochrens from Omaha Nebraska cruised in with this ambulance of the future! It had some very nice futuristic beings painted on the side - very metallic with hinges and all seemingly underwater. I guess they've solved the rust problem. I wonder if they could help me with my car's rust!

Good thing, too! They seemed to be needed for this patient that you can see being!

This car was parked in a driveway. I think it is Kat Corrigan's mirrored mazda.

More cars lined up for the parade:

The mayor R. T. Ryback was out on his bicycle - shaking hands and wearing a vote for Obama bumper sticker.

Peter Haaken Thompson drove his model A in the parade! What a beautiful and pristine car! I wonder if his overheats as much as mine did!

And speaking of the Phantasmagorey. Here she is lined up for the parade. We ran into this cool zombie and Padfoot of the Harry Potter books and they posed for us!

Here's a closer look.

And here I am chatting with the zombie.

And I even had an entourage: Here is Mom.

Sandra Elftmann brought her Faerie-Elf(t) car.

And this is what the zombie was driving in (I think). There is a car registered to Mina Leierwood called Zombie car of the dead.

Stay tuned for part two soon! Linked here !

Wow! As the song goes, have I told you lately how much I love you?
I'm glad you had a great day!
And what a lovely entourage---wish I could have been part of it.
(would have dusted off my best thorn veil for the happy occasion)

Neroli - the zombie and I will be waiting for you and your thorn veil down by the bend!

ChrisB - Yeah - she did a good job on her costume especially since she had to make it from stuff from her suitcase!

RC - Yes there was a lot of ART and work there!

Thanks Capt'n, The day before while getting the car ready, I would have said repeatedly, "I dunno if I can do it, Capt'n!!"

The cars are really cool, but your mom is too cute!

Love, love, love the zombie car, but yours is still the clear winner. Mom is starting to look outrageous...better send her home, before she auditions for Sally Bowles.

Beckie - Sh eis a cutie!!

Min - She has more energy than that Sally Bowles we saw on stage and would make a great star!!
