Canterbury Part 3 (of 3)

Outtside in the court yard there were many details that caught the eye. Like this door handle for example.

The abstract nature of the ivy on the wall was lovely.

Eventually we re-entered the church. The Hop hoodening was finally over so we could see the part of the church that had been closed off until then. The clergy straightened things up and we went into the back to see the famous tombs.

The seats were so beautifully carved.

This is the tomb of the Black Prince.

These medallions represent the signs of the zodiac.

So those are a few of the images I took in Canterbury Cathedral.

Canterbury Visit Part 2

This entry has some photos I took to work with photographic compositions.

This chapel stored the supplies for the hop hoodening.

It was quite ornate and beautiful.

They performed the blessing in the main part of the church.

This is the memorial chapel to Thomas Beckett who was killed in the church.

There were some lovely windows in the church. You can see Henry VIII below.

Queen Victoria is on the right below.

Outside there was an herb garden for the original monks.

They have planted herbs that would most likely have been grown in the middle ages.

The garden also contains ruins.

The garden had hops growing in it.

You can see the garden from the back here. Violet is sitting on the step drawing.
