Galway Continued and Wickow Mountains Tour

Our trip back from Galway still had a few interesting sights.

This is a sculpture of Oscar Wilde and Eduoard Villde in Galway.

This is the Guiness Brewery in Dublin that we passed on the way back.

This is Dublin as we reached home after tGalway!

This bridge is an homage to James Joyce. It is built to be  in the shape of a book.

This is Trinity college from the front.

My next day (23. August) was one of the best trips I took. It went to the Wicklow mountains.

This is the tour guide for the wicklow mountains.

We headed off in the bus in the direction of the Wicklow mountains.

We had a lovely day for the trip.

I'm a bit tired today so I may just let the images speak for themselves. The Irish countryside is green and beautiful.

The heather shines pink in clumps along the side of the road.

This mountain looks almost pink with the heath.

It didn't take too long  to get to our first stop a little church and graveyard within the national park.

We were able to walk around in the woods and admire the natural landscape as well as admire the historic buildings.

I think this is Glendalough.  The ruins are from the 6th century.

It amazes me that they could make the rooves out of stacked stones!!

We walked around in the woods a bit too.

The graveyard was full of Celtic crosses and quite picturesque.

Soon enough we were back on the road.

I never tire of looking at the scenery out the window.

You can really see the color of the heather in this shot.

We stopped to look at the Wicklow gap (or something, but I was fascinated by these sheep.

Here are other things I saw out the bus window.

Eventually we stopped in Kilkenny where our  guide told us more about Irish history.

There is always a castle! ;-)

And this was a jail:

I stopped for lunch at a pub called The Playwright and had a lovely traditional breakfast.

 Everybody loves breakfast!

We did a walking tourand were shown Rothe House, St. Canice's Cathedral, and Kilkenny Castle.

Here are some random photos:

The woman that owned this Inn probably poisoned her husband and her servant ended up being punished for her crime.

This must be St. Canice.

There were lovely gothic arches inside and some more recent but pretty glass wndows.

Sarcophagi outside the church.

It was a glorious day, with glorious weather!
