Sept 20 Off to the Airport

So Jim had to get back to Minnesota, so we packed up and headed to the airport.

 

We headed to the train.

There was this woman there with a haristyle that seems to have become popular here. Blonde streaks in tiny braids.

 

 

And of course it was hard not to notice the CC TV cameras in the station.

 

 

After Jim took off, I saw a few more interesting things. The wrought iron fences made some interesting linear patterns.

These chairs were unusual.

 

 

This was a kind of funny sculpture in the park.

Jim's Visit Sept 19

So we had a visitor on the 19th of September. It took a while to find each other, but after we did we went to a little pub for lunch.

Then we decided to walk around. We saw the Tardis, so we had to stop and take a photo.

 

We decided to head down to West Minster and check out the Parliament building.

Here is the statue of Richard the Lion Heart in front of the building.

 

 

We didn't have time for a tour, but Jim got to peek in a bit.

 

In a park we passed this statue of Emmeline Pankhurst the suffragist.

 

 

We walked through a park and saw this Rodin sculpture of the Burgers of Calais.

Then we decided to go to the Tate.

 

Last time I had somehow missed the Turner exhibit, so this time we made sure to see it.

 

 

 

Upstairs there was also a William Blake exhibition.

 

The far room on the left was interesting.  It had several of the Turner paintings broken down into the color wheels of the colors of those paintings.

Later we had tea in the Cafe.

 

We decided to do some walking, so we passed by Trafalgar.

 

 

 

Near Trafalgar we passed the Church of St Martin in the Fields.

 

 

There was an orchestra practising for a concert - playing Vivaldi. It was magnificent.

As we walked on we passed some Hare Krishnas. No saffron robes, but I hadn't seen them in a really long time.

 

 

We went through Leceister Square past some Bobbies.

 

and past China town.

 

Then it was on to Picadilly Circus, the theater district.

 

 

Then we headed west toward Buckingham palace.  We saw these little guys in a gallery window.

 

We passed some Ritzy hotels with their doormen.

 

 

We walked through the Green Park toward the palace.

 

Guess what we saw!

 

and then there was the palace.

We went through an underpass near the Apsley house and saw this on the Duke of Wellington.

 

And speak of the devil - here he is on his horse.

 

Then we stopped for dinner at an Indian restaurant.

It had been a really full day.
