Day 7 Sept 3 Departure for Aswan, Wheelhouse Tour, Egyptian Dinner, Nubian Dancers

Our afternoon was spent more leisurely as we continued our cruise south on the Nile.

We had the opportunity to learn how to make Falafel, but I was tired, so I sat and watched the river flow instead of improving my mind.

The water birds are always so fascinating.

Later that afternoon there was a tour of the wheelhouse and we got to see how our captain navigates the Nile.

Doesn't he look confident and good at his job?

We passed by the Silsila "mountains" and some places where stones were quarried.

Here we passed by the Speos of Horemheb the last King of the 18th dynasty. This temple of Kenya was dedicated to Amun Re and has reliefs inside of Amun-Re and Sobek the crocodile god.

Here is a painting done by Edward Lear. He really captures the mood of the place.

This may even be the location below.

There is a lovely blog about these buildings here. I guess spousal unit D didn't find the afternoon as relaxing as I did!

We also had the opportunity to learn a bit about Hieroglyphics.

And there was the option of high tea with finger sandwiches and delicious baked goods.

And as we drank our tea and ate our biscuits we could watch the ever lively Nile.

In the evening we had a Galibeyah party and also got to see Nubian dancers!

Our guides also dressed for the occasion.

Best of all, we had an authentic Egyptian meal with fresh breads

and stew

and even better fancy Egyptian desserts.

After dinner we got to watch a dance performance by Nubian dancers.

There were a variety of costumes and types of dances.

They also brought the audience into the show!

And a good time was had by all!
