Drawing Update Again

So this is the final version of the draft for the final project. (Now I'm starting to work on my real paper!!) The instructor was very happy with it. What a relief!!
Below the old version - I'm very unhappy with the figure on the upper right, but I guess that is it for now.

We'll see what the instructor says.

Some things that could use some explaining....

Okay so this is a gigantic cat - I can hardly carry him now - but where did his body go? There are all 4 of his feet right in front of him! I think he is an alien from another planet!

Okay, so I bought this vanilla at the store the other day and out of curiosity I took a look at the expiration date - no problem it will be good until 2015, but wait they are VERY specific there.

So that H - it stands for Hour, right?

Same Old Thing

So I was able to work a little on this this late afternoon. (For some reason I have a splitting headache today.) Anyway - two more figures to go and then background adjustments. Can't decide whether to include the airplane or not!

My Combination Doily

It seems I am combining the patterns Dandelion and Hängeblume and not Schlüsselblume - Whoops - so it is a bit different than I expected, but here is what it looks like at 14" (about row 56)

Holding on to the Wheel and Hoping for clear Skies Updated

(So I have updated the drawing and placed above this blog entry.)

Life has been a bit tough of late. Things are rough at work and I have little satisfaction except in my drawing. Even that is sometimes hard to dive into. Today I monkeyed around for hours trying to get focused enough to start my sketch. I ended working on four  of the nine (or so) figures -

This isn't the final version - instead it is a practice sketch so I can play with dark and light and composition. I'm trying to bring the figures up more slowly - it is a much larger piece 22" by 30", so I am working more slowly and carefully. Here is a close up on the figures I worked on today. Great Grandfather Rehor on the upper left just doesn't look like himself, but Granddaddy Hunt has finally moved away from the Freddy Kruger look.

At the moment I don't have a good sense of where I am going with this, but at least I finally did a little work on it.

I also just discovered that I am using the wrong instructions for my doily - now I'm starting to understand why it doesn't look like the flower I thought I was knitting. It will be very interesting to see what this thing ends up looking like - it is certainly nothing like what I was planning!!

A Nw Plan for My Final Project

So today I've been working on the composition of my final project for drawing. I haven't quite got it, but here is an idea I am playing with - now I have to figure out where the dark and light should go, where the focus.

Improvements on Art

Here's a better picture of my flowers.

Here is a cardinal in the front yard.

Here are some rough renderings to look at composition.

And here is how I ended up doing it (I guess it isn't quite finished.)

In class I continued to work on this further and this is what it currently looks like:

Drawing Update

Well, not too much news here, but there is a phoebe family living near the house again. They keep an eye on us.

It has been a really rough couple of weeks, so my family sent me beautiful flowers - orchids and roses. They are absolutely gorgeous!

I've started working on my homework for art class, but am not too happy with it yet. Some of the people aren't too accurate, but it is taking a long time to do all the rendering. Here is what I have so far. Tomorrow night I'll try to fill in the other figures and then adjust the dark and light.

Family Drawing (Wow, this has changed!)

Updated version of the family drawing. (A new updated version is below.)

I'm still not finished, but I had some space to fill so I got an idea and went with it.

It is not finished, but it is starting to take shape.

Knitting Update Löwenschüssel

My Niebling-modified doily is coming along. I have knitted about an 8" diameter piece now. Here is a real picture of what it looks like.

New Flowers

Look at this col new flower. I'm so excited. It has never bloomed before.

And here are the wild ginger plants.

This is my next overly ambitious project. I'm not sure I'm up to it.

Winter Painting update

Lynn's updated painting:

New Knitting Project

What is it? You tell me- It is about 5 inches in diameter and a mish mosh of patterns. I wonder if it will look like anything! I'm calling it Lion Bowl Löwenschüssel.

Here's a computer manipulated version to guess what it might look like right now!

Who Looks This Good at 4 AM?

Well, my Mom who had been visiting for the last 3 weeks flew home today. We had to get up at 4 AM in order to make it to the airport in time. Look how fresh Mom looks. (I'm glad you can't see the bags under my eyes right now!!)

At Midway airport, I decided to eat lunch since I had a long layover. I ate at Harry Carey's and also did a quick sketch of a young man as interested in his art as I am in mine.

When I got home I discovered all these flowers blooming in the side yard. What a delightful surprise!

Other Art in the House

Here is what my Mom has been working on while I've been drawing. The painting isn't finished, but it is looking so good, that I just have to post a picture of the unfinished piece.

New Drawing - Self Portrait (updated)

So, I began my new piece today. I'm working on a self portrait and although this doesn't look especially like me, there is a certain resemblance.

Class tomorrow. We'll see what my teacher thinks. I added a bit of dark on the left side already to give a better sense of the ground and space.

Well, since class there have been a few changes:
