Off to Delaware

It was a bit rainy our first day on the road, but the trip went well and we were able to drive into Ohio before stopping for the night. We found a great deal on a hotel and it was inexpensive but still had a pool, a whirlpool a refrigerator and everything one could want in a hotel room.


Our neighbor had an interesting car. Not only was it riddled with phony bullet holes, (paste on type ones) but it had a whole bunch of antennae!


The next day was short and except for a tiny bit of rain went well. We arrived in the late afternoon. The next day we met with Aunt Pauline at her beautiful house.


The decor was amazing and the setting also gorgeous. Aunt Pauline showed us around. Here she is on her back deck.


Aunt Pauline was a designer in New York and it showed in her home. She used to visit the theater quite a bit and she has decorated the bath room with the play bills she collected over the years. What a sentimental journey to go in and look at all the stars from Broadway. (Click on an image to enlarge and see some of the many famous people represented.)


It was great to see Katherine Hepburn, Zero Mostel, Ingrid Bergman, Barbra Streisand, Rosalind Russell and so many others that we have loved over the years.




We went to a delightful Asian Fusion restaurant called Nectar.


It had a lovely decor that featured a lot of Orange. It also had a huge screen with an image of Buddha above the bar.

We had a marvelous time chatting with Aunt Pauline and a fantastic meal!

Sights of Delaware

Our first day in Wilmington we were taken on a lovely driving tour of the city. I have already posted a few of the pictures I took of theless noteworthy sights, but I wanted to also include the more famous things we saw as well as a few incidental photos. This first picture is sculpture in front of some kind of governmental building (I think.)

We saw a new conservation/wetlands area. The water tower was painted to reflect the purpose.

We stopped and walked around the River Front.

It is lovely, clean and there were lost of people out walking their dogs and enjoying the sunshine.

These are my In-laws and spouse.

I like the colors of this next picture. It looks peaceful and warm.

Here are some of the older row houses that we saw on our drive.

The historic sailing ship was moored out behind a big fence so we couldn't get a very good view of it.

Old Swede's Church is the most historic landmark that we saw. didn't get a good picture, but this is from a website called "JustWestof Phildelphia."

This lovely young lady was also enjoying the sights.

We passed this synagogue. I really liked the colors.

We had a late lunch at the Charcoal Pit.

It was very 50s Americana with the checked floors and a juke box...

...and little table side boxes for choosing one's tunes. It reminded me of my very first date when we went to a malt shop and we had the same boxes at the table.

When we got home we did acorn patrol. The acorns in Chalfonte are huge and dangerous and need to be collected to keep people from slipping. As you can tell from the facial expressions it was a pleasant pastime.

Afterwards I needed a shower.

We had breakfast the next day at Angel's. This was our server. She was such a sweet woman. She did a great job and was thoroughly pleasant. I even decided to go for the local delicacy scrapple a tripe, brains and cornmeal dish that is really very tasty.

Spooky Wilmington

More and more people seem to be getting excited about Halloween and decorating accordingly. This was also true in my Mother-In-Law's neighborhood. While on a walk we stumbled upon this house.

We had a lovely chat with the owner, Mr Greer (I beleive), who was in the process of setting things up.

The home owner said he would often dress up in the Frankenstein costume there and stand very still and then take children by surprise. I'm glad to see the spirit of Halloween (haha) still exists some places! We get maybe one child or else nobody coming to our house these days.

I couldn't resist going by later to see it at night.

Here are a few close ups of the various characters.

The hanging ghost was by far my favorite. The breeze caused the garments to float mysteriously.

It was a very scary being.

This Bride of Frankenstein was also interesting. The creator said that he used his mom's wedding dress for the underlayer.

That dog in the background doesn't look the least concerned, does she?
