A Song in My Heart (and Blood on my Lips?)

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

- Catherine Aird -

I stole this quote from ChrisB's blog . Check out her wonderful stories about American Internet marketers and most inspiring quotes about aging as a woman!

Her friend Lisa at the food snob has a meme going on the three songs that you would choose if you could never hear music again. That is SO hard -and one is tempted to choose really long pieces so that one could stretch out the time before one had to do without.

I know that one of my "songs" would be Beethoven's Ninth symphony (or the Ode to Joy movement" if we can't have the whole thing as a song. (Or maybe the second movement from the Fifth or the first movement formthe seventh - that is three right there!!)

The next song would be "Let it Bleed" by the Rolling Stones

...and finally I would choose a Billie Holiday song

- either Gloomy Sunday or Maybe Georgia on My Mind.

(Sorry no Youtube connections - I am still learning the essentials of a simple html blog! ;-} )

  1. Much as I'm delighted to have you mention me you actually took the quote from my Mums blog (Chrisb). It was funny reading it because I knew I hadn't written it.

I love the diversity of your choices. I did this last week and I'm sure I would choose at least one different track this week!

  2. Hi thanks for the link but to save any confusion you might want to change the name to Chris (beccy is my daughter at peppermint tea).
I don't listen to much Beethoven but my hubby listens to a lot of classical music which I enjoy. I went over to you tube and found some extracts on video. I'm not a Stones fan but Billie Holiday has a beautiful voice ( love georgia on my mind) and we have several of her~CD's.
And I see you've done what I should have done and researched the quote- I'll amend mine so thank you.

  3. Speaking of Billie Holiday, There is a great group on Yahoo called Billie Holiday And The Disciples Of Swing that salutes the art of vocal jazz. During February they were celebrating Girl Singers Month and this weeks playlist includes several tracks by Billie that were recorded in 1957 at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival. You should check them out. Here is the link to the group and the current playlist:

    thank you, dear one.
Billie has always been near and dear---she was the only one who could sing my now-16-yr-old to sleep!

  6. Apologies to both Chris and Beccy for confusing your names. I went to both web sites today and although I knew who was the Mom and who the daughter, I had a mental lapse! It was CHRIS whose site I was responding to!!

  7. purpleworms that's really odd because I see beccy's comment was done before mine but it was not there when I posted my comment so at the time I thought mine to be the only one.
